Darn! I feel super bad that I missed being in Cebu City last weekend for the famous Sinulog Festival. It has been a decade since I last attended, and it’s just one of the major Philippine festival that’s really worth going to. I watched it on TV, but the experience of actually being there and being in the middle of all the fun and festivities is a lot different from just watching on TV.
But before I go on, let me tell you a little something about the Sinulog 2011 festival and what it’s all about.
The Sinulog is held on the third Sunday of January every year in Cebu City. This is to give honor to the Child Jesus, or the “Sto. Niño”, the patron saint of the city. The Sinulog celebration is famous for the colorful garb, and the street dancing. And of course, for the food.
This year, there were shows, contests, parades, and even a boat ride showcasing the Sto. Niño. I bet there were lots of people there, from business people to yuppies, families, kids, and yes, even the friendly Maritime Lawyer from across the street. It seems that a lot of people went out of their way to make it to Cebu City to shout “Pit Señor” with our fellow Cebuanos.
